FAQ's

Why use the Group Pass to read The New York Times online?

The New York Times charges for full access to its digital edition, NYTimes.com.  Visitors to the site are capped at viewing 10 articles each month before charges take effect.  The Group Pass gives you unlimited access to all content on the site, with the exception of a limitation on the number of articles you can view from the archive period 1923-1980.

I already have a NYTimes.com digital subscription.  What should I do?

If you have an existing paid NYTimes.com digital subscription, you are not eligible to activate a Group Pass. You should continue to access The Times via your own subscription.

Should I cancel my existing subscription to make use of the site license access?

The New York Times Academic Site License has some restrictions that your personal subscription does not have.

________________________________________

What are the restrictions?

At this time, access to articles from the date range 1923 to 1980 is limited to 5 articles per day.

Can I access The Times off-campus?

Yes. All you need to first access The Times is visit AccessNYT.com and use your Trinity University email address to grab a pass.

________________________________________

Can I access the Times from my smartphone and/or tablet?

Yes. Once you have created your account download the free NYTimes.com app from your app. store on your smartphone and/or tablet. Once the app has downloaded, log in with the credentials you created.

Why am I receiving an "article limit" error message when using NYT on my tablet?

When Trinity started their Site License, we did not offer tablet access.  When we added it, everyone who 'grabbed a pass' before the switch is part of the old setup and will not have tablet access until they 'reactivate' their pass or once their current pass expires. To expedite access, in this case, you will need to cancel your current access and then reactivate. To complete this process:

1. Click on the "CANCEL" button (under "My Account")
2. (From our campus IP) Navigate to Accessnyt.com
3. Click on the link "Already have an account"
4. Log in with your existing username and password
*If you get an error when you enter in your email/password, it's because the cancelation has not been processed yet (it can take up to 2 days). Once you are able to complete the steps above, your ID will be associated with the updated account that grants tablet access.

________________________________________

Why am I asked to log in on some occasions and not others?

This may be because your browser may clear its web cache/history if it is set to do so. In such cases you will need to log back into to NYTimes.com, but you still have your Group Pass.

________________________________________

Do campus alumni have access?

No, only current students, faculty and staff are entitled to activate a Group Pass.
