Welcome to the
AI Literacy Initiative AI Literacy Initiative logo

The AI Literacy Initiative, spearheaded by ITS and sponsored by CIO Ben Lim, is committed to educating and empowering the Trinity community through a series of engaging workshops and events that will follow the EDUCAUSE framework for AI Literacy . These sessions will feature collaborations with researchers from both Trinity and external organizations actively exploring the frontiers of artificial intelligence, as well as guest speakers renowned for integrating AI into their professional practices.

The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of AI’s transformative impact across various industries and its application in a higher education environment, while equipping participants with the skills and knowledge to navigate and create the future of technology at Trinity.

Our Goals

The goal of the program is to advance through the following phases in an agile fashion to best educate and inspire the Trinity community. Surveys, interviews, and community interaction results will be taken into consideration when advancing the community from one phase to the next.

  1. star Cultivate AI Understanding (Fall 2024)
    • Campus-wide understanding of AI terms
    • Knowledge of the benefits and limitations of AI tools
    • Knowledge of current AI tools used on campus
    • Understand different types of AI
       
  2. star Utilize and Apply AI through a Learning Community (Spring 2025)
    • Successful use of AI tools on campus
    • Collaboration between departments using AI tools
    • Introduction of shared techniques across different AI tools
    • Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and copyright in AI use
    • Strategies to avoid bias when using AI tools
       
  3. star Analyze and Evaluate AI Tools at Trinity (Fall 2025)
    • Understanding that outcomes using AI tools extend beyond the tool itself
    • Ability to debate for or against AI use and applications
    • Consideration of ethical implications in AI development and deployment
       
  4. star Inspire Appropriately Ethical Use of AI (Spring 2026)
    • Advise the creation of Trinity AI Policies and Procedures
    • Provide guidance on:
      • Using AI to create large language models (LLMs) or new systems
      • Exploring novel uses of AI
