Welcome to the AI Literacy Initiative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is showing up everywhere β in search engines, writing tools,
music apps, and research. At Trinity, the AI Literacy Initiative helps
students, faculty, and staff understand what AI is, how to use it responsibly, and how it
might shape the future of learning and work.
This initiative is led by Information Technology Services (ITS) and supported
by partners across campus, including the Library, the Collaborative for Learning and Teaching,
Human Resources, and faculty from Computer Science, Communication, and Philosophy.
Our Goals
Weβre building AI literacy in four stages (adapted from the
EDUCAUSE framework for AI Literacy).
-
Understand AI
- Learn the basic terms and concepts.
- Explore what AI can and canβt do.
-
Use and Apply AI
- Try out common tools (like ChatGPT or image generators).
- Practice strategies for effective prompting.
- Consider privacy, copyright, and academic integrity.
-
Analyze and Evaluate AI
- Discuss bias, misinformation, and ethics.
- Debate when AI helps β and when it might cause harm.
-
Create with AI
- Explore how Trinity researchers and students are building or using AI in new ways.
- Imagine how AI could be part of your own projects.
Upcoming Focus Areas
- Senior Leadership Decisions and Developments (August 2025)

Why it matters: AI literacy isnβt about saying
yes or no to AI. Itβs about making informed choices β when to use it,
when to question it, and how to use it responsibly in academic and professional life.
