COMM 3325-2: Race, Gender, and Sexuality in Media

This research guide is intended to support your research in Dr. Wilks's special topics course.

Assignment

From Dr. Lauren Wilks's assignment description:

The goal of the semester-long project is ultimately to understand how progress towards equitable diversity and inclusion in media can only be partially understood if you exclusively consider what is visible and/or represented on-screen.

  1. Choose a media object.
  2. Analyze and reflect upon the relationship between your media object and race, gender, and/or sexuality.
  3. Use secondary sources – especially entertainment and media industry trade journals – to research behind-the-scenes, industrial factors related to your media of choice.
