Children's and Young Adult Literature

The Children's and Young Adult Literature Collection consists of children's and young adult fiction and non-fiction. Included are many award-winning titles. Genres in this collection include literary classics, poetry, picture books, biographies, counting books, mysteries, histories, science and activity books. Also included are older titles, some of which may be considered controversial or offensive. These books are retained for the study of such representations. They are marked with spine stickers for "anthropological/historical value."

In the library catalog, the Children's Literature Collection is identified by the symbol EML (Educational Materials Literature) preceding the call number. This collection is located on the second floor of the Coates Library in the northeast corner.

Note: Classics of children's literature that are often the subject of literary analysis may also be located in the regular stacks.
