Library Textbook Affordability Program

The Coates library textbook affordability program is intended to reduce the rising textbook costs faced by Trinity students. To that end, the library allocates a limited amount of funds to purchase selected textbooks to be placed on reserve or made available electronically. Please note we will not have all required textbooks available. Please see below for selection criteria and how to request a textbook purchase.

Selection Criteria

Inclusion criteria:

  • Cost exceeds $100
  • Priority will be given to books that can be purchased electronically under a license that allows for multiple simultaneous users
  • In most cases, only a single copy of each book will be purchased
  • Because funds are limited, purchases will be made in the order of request receipt until the allocated amount is exhausted for the semester

Exclusion criteria:

In general, textbooks that meet the criteria below will be excluded from the program:

  • Course packs or manual

Since students are usually expected to write individually in course books and manuals the library cannot purchase

  • Rental textbooks/textbooks only offered for individual use

Some publishers only distribute textbooks as rentals. The library is unable to provide access to rentals

  • Online access codes

The library is unable to provide access to content where an online access code is required

How to Request

To request a purchase please fill out the textbook purchase request form.

Please note:

The request form is for instructors and their proxies. Students should make any recommendations for requests to their instructors.

Because funds are limited, purchases will be made in the order of requests until the allocated amount has been exhausted for the semester.

The earliest you can fill out the form is June 8, 2020.
