This LibGuide is intended for students taking ECON 4370 who are doing original research, creating a model, and testing a hypothesis –– and/or for those students searching for data sources to be used for modeling in Stata or other software programs.
You will find various data about social and behavioral sciences in other databases; however, I recommend first starting with these two databases. Pew Research Center often puts the data into context in associated article-length reports, but you will use the data to draw your own questions and conclusions.
An international consortium of more than 750 academic institutions and research organizations, Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) maintains a data archive of more than 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences. It hosts 21 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields.
Research areas include: US Politics and Policy; Journalism and Media; Internet and Tech; Science and Society; Religion and Public Life; Hispanic Trends; Global Attitudes and Trends; Social and Demographic Trends; and more. There is often a lag between when reports are available and when the collected data is available. This data is freely available for secondary research, however you must CREATE AN ACCOUNT before you can access the data. You will create an individual account instead of a Trinity account. I would recommend reading some of the reports to come up with questions of your own.
