JACS format
Here's the format for a JACS (Journal of the American Chemical Society) article citation:
Last name, Initials; Last name, Initials (etc. for all authors). Journal title abbreviation in italics, publication year in bold, volume number in italics, page numbers, first-last.
Example:
Heitmann, L. M.; Taylor, A. B.; Hart, P. J.; Urbach, A. R. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2006, 128, 12574-12581.
For the formats of non-journal sources, see The ACS Style Guide (4th floor library stacks: QD8.5 A25 2006).
More Citing Sources
Here are a few resources to help you cite sources correctly.
We also have printed style guides in the library.
Ask at the reference desk for help finding them.
- The Coates Library's Citing Sources Page
This is the library's page on citing sources. Includes basic guidelines for MLA, APA, Chicago, ASA, and Turabian styles. - The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL)
Purdue University's OWL has MLA and APA citation style guides that are really great. I've used them myself. - Refworks Tutorials
