The Assignment

Assignment for French 4307 / ML&L 3311

Step One

Check out (or rent) the movie assigned to you and watch it at least twice.

Step Two

Develop a bibliography of articles and book chapters on your film (6 items).

A.  The secondary material may not be a simple review of the film, but must come from a scholarly source.

B. Mr. Harris in the library has prepared a list of a number of resources you might consult:
http://libguides.trinity.edu/content.php?pid=30233

C. Feel free to consult with Mr. Harris if you are having difficulty locating materials. Phone: x8160. E-mail:
benjamin.harris@trinity.edu

D. For those of you in French, at least three of your sources should be in French.

Step Three

Make an appointment to see Mr. Harris to discuss what you have found. Bring all available materials with you to your appointment.  With his help, you will narrow your list to two works (for those of you in French, at least one must be in French). This appointment is obligatory.

Resources can be obtained through interlibrary loan, but that can require up to 2 weeks for them to arrive, so plan accordingly.

Step Four

Read the two chosen articles/chapters carefully and write a synopsis of each.  Length 1-1 1/2 pages each. Include full bibliographic ifnormation. Please be very careful not to plagiarize.

Step Five

Write a 2-3 page essay comparing the film you have seen with the film we discussed in class by the same director, focusing on the links (visual, cinematographic, thematic) between the two.
